The report explores why more hospices are devoting time, money and resources to physician education programs, and five ways physicians may improve end-of-life care.
AThis issues need to be addressed because of the late referrals and the number
patients who could benefit from hospice care who are being referred to hospice
programs too late,@ said Robert K. Jenkins, publisher of hospice letter.
AThere are a number of factors that go along with this, but the single greatest
opportunity for improving referral to hospice and paliative care lies with
the physician,@ Jenkins said.
Researchers found that even nurses need more end-of-life education and the
report includes how a $2.24 million grant is supporting end-of-life nursing
education as a training project.
